Happy Thanksgiving, everyone! I realize that many people who read this blog aren’t actually from the United States, but I think that taking a moment to be grateful is something we can all relate to. I have a lot to be thankful for this year both personally and professionally, but here on this blog I’m very grateful for all of you lovely followers. It’s been a crazy year, and I’ve found myself with little spare time to make new content. So, it means a lot to me that you still come here even when I haven’t been that active. Now that my busy schedule is winding down, I’m excited to jump back into things!Continue reading
Hello all! Long time no talk! Is everyone enjoying their summer? Do you all love “Dance the Night Away” as much as I do?
As you might have figured out, this blog has been on an unexpected hiatus for the past few months. 2018 has been absolutely crazy, and life threw me some curveballs pretty early on in the year. I actually ended up relocating back to the US, which was difficult because I hadn’t been planning on it… but I’ve also been determined to make the most out of the hand I’ve been dealt. I decided to make a big life change, and hopefully I’ll have some good news to announce here in the near future!
The downside to all these new and exciting changes is that I just haven’t been able to make posts here – and it honestly makes me sad. Last year was really hard for me, and I’m not exaggerating when I say this blog was one of the few good things to come out of it. I had lots of free time because of my visa restrictions in France, and I poured all of it into creating and running “Katherine Does K-pop.” I treated it like my job
because I couldn’t have a real one, and it became a way of keeping myself active and focusing my energy. Writing is one of my passions, and I’m just disappointed that I had to step back and rework my plans – even if it was just for a little bit.
That being said, things are starting to settle down in my life… which means that I’m officially lifting my self-imposed hiatus! You might have noticed me quietly updating most of my group profiles over the past month, but now I’m ready to get back to actually posting! Despite the long absence, I’ve been keeping up with K-pop all this time – and I’m so excited to start writing again.
I have lots of things that I want to do, but I want to start things off with some posts about KCON NY. It was the most amazing experience, and I have some pretty wild stories. (Okay, only ONE wild story… but I promise that it’s a good one!) Then, I’ll do some general posts about K-pop in 2018 so far. Hopefully after that, I’ll be able to get my reviews going again – though I think I’m going to tweak how I do those a little bit. I have lots of other fun stuff planned, but I think I’ll keep those a secret until I get back into my routine.
If you’re one of my followers, thanks so much for being patient and coming back. If you’re new here, then welcome and thanks for stopping by! Here’s to a new era of this blog!
Wow, it’s been a while since I made one of these! I feel like an eternity has passed since November and the National Novel Writing Month challenge. I really tried to keep my eye on the K-pop scene, because there was so much awesome music being released. Though I did manage to stay up to date, ultimately it was just too difficult to make posts and attempt writing a book at the same time. But I got my 50,000 words done, and I’m ready to jump back into blogging!
December is a much slower month for K-pop, so it’s a lot easier to play catch-up. I just published the rest of my October posts, and I’m working on November’s as we speak. I’m also going to keep posting recaps of The Unit and Mix Nine, although that might be slower because they’re more time-consuming. I’m not going to do any profiles this month, since most of the ones I have up right now need serious updating. But since we’re approaching 2018, I’m planning on doing some year end summary posts!
I hope you’re having a happy holiday season, wherever you may be!
Happy November! (Late per usual, but whatever) I hope everyone had a Happy Halloween! Mine was quite low-key, because it’s not as big a deal in France as it is in the US. It’s mostly just a party theme for the weekend before. All my grad school friends were on October break and I’m a huge introvert anyway, so I just stayed in and played a Nancy Drew game (Ghost of Thornton Hall, in case there are any other ND fans out there). And I managed to get massively scared, despite the fact that
I’m a grown ass woman I’ve played it three times already.
Hey all! I noticed that I’ve gotten into the habit of providing updates around this time every month, so I figured I’d make it a thing. I’ve had more time on my hands and I’ve been posting more frequently, but I’m playing catch up. Hopefully I’ll be on track by the end of October! So here’s the latest news on what I’m planning for this blog:
October’s boy group of the month is NU’EST W! I’m super obsessed with “Where You At” and have been playing it nonstop. You should definitely give it a listen if you haven’t already. I also updated the profile for GOT7 in anticipation for their comeback, so it’s all nice and reformatted. I’m not sure if there’s going to be a girl group for October…I was planning on it being Twice, but since they’re coming back on the 30th it might be better to just push them to November.
I’m just about finished with September! There should be a review for BTS and “DNA” out in the next couple days, and then my Rapid(ish) Reviews and Favorites posts should come out quickly after that. Then I’ll launch into October. I’m not sure which solo reviews I’ll do yet, but they’ll most likely be GOT7 and NU’EST.
*I was planning on alternating between male and female biases for the That’s Right, My Type column, but Twice’s late comeback put a wrench in those plans (again). This month I’ve chosen NU’EST W’s JR, who we all know captured my heart during Produce 101.
*Last month I mentioned on working on an EXO quiz. I finally got all the material together to make one, but their comeback’s long over. So I’m going to put that on hold and choose a new group. I might get my act together and do a quiz for one of the boy groups that’s currently promoting, but it’s more likely that I’ll wait until November for Wanna One’s comeback.
*This fall’s going to get crazy with all of the survival shows! I was planning on recapping them like I did with Produce 101, but we’ll see how that turns out. It depends on how much time I have and how quickly subs come out. If I choose one to recap though, it will most likely be The Unit.
That’s it for now! I hope you’re all enjoying the wealth of excellent music we’ve been blessed with this month. I know I have!
Another month, another group profile! I finished GFriend just in time for their comeback! I’ve also been working on one for a certain extremely popular boy group that’s coming back in less than a week…but I have other things I want to do, so I might put it to the side for a week or two.
I can’t believe we’re already so far into September! I had so many great new blog updates planned, and all of a sudden the month’s halfway through. Where does all the time go???? The good news is that I’ve been working on a lot of different posts over the past couple of weeks, so I’m looking to post a lot in the next couple of weeks. Here’s what’s coming up next (in no particular order):
*A post about the K.A.R.D. fan meeting I went to in London
*A “Favorites” post for August
*The rest of my reviews for August comebacks and debuts. As you might have noticed, I’ve had less and less time to write full in-depth reviews for groups, and sometimes I just don’t have enough to say to merit a whole post. So I decided that I would save writing the long reviews for my favorite groups, and then make one big monthly post to do quick opinions on all the rest.
*Bias appreciation post for September: This is a monthly topic I’ve been waiting to do for a while. It’s just a fun semi-fangirl kind of post where I talk about my bias and the reasons I’ve chosen him or her. If you want a hint of who I picked for this month, I’m thinking of permanently naming this column “That’s Right, My Type.”
*Quizzes: When I was in London to see K.A.R.D., my friend and I basically spent the entire weekend doing K-Pop personality quizzes. It was so much fun, and I thought that would be a fun thing to add to this blog. This one might take a while, but it will be an EXO quiz.
So to sum it up, a lot of EXO related stuff and some other things (XD XD XD)
Hi again! I want to apologize to frequent visitors for the lack of activity on this blog – this summer’s been a busy one! I have a lot of different posts in the works, but I still have to edit most of them. In the meantime, I’ve been working on building up my Group Profile page, and I just did one for Wanna One! I plan to follow their activities closely, so I hope that this will be a good resource for fans and people who want to check them out.
A little update on what’s coming: The next post I will do will definitely be about the Monsta X concert, because I’ve been slacking off on that for like a week now. After that, I will get back to reviews because it’s been a while! I will definitely do Wanna One, and I’ll also do SNSD even though their promotions ended abruptly and there’s all that contract renewal drama. I haven’t decided which other groups I will cover yet because there are so many, but I’m happy to take any requests!
Hi all! I’ve been thinking about making a Twitter account for this blog for a while, and I’ve been putting it off because I’m lazy. But I’m headed to the Monsta X concert tonight, and I wanted a place to share photos and thoughts.
SO! If you want to follow me, you can now find me at @katdoeskpop 🙂
In the meantime, I’ll make a post about my concert experience in the next couple of days!
